Spiced Almond Butter

Almond butter is beautiful. Smooth as silk, wonderfully nourishing and gives peanut butter a run for its money on all levels. Kayla, a beautiful soul in our family, is an amazing athlete and chef.  She is creative and forever experimenting with different ingredients and various combinations of flavours and textures. This spiced almond butter is one of her best kitchen experiments to date and she has agreed to share her recipe for you all to indulge in. Simple, quick and packed with flavour - thanks Kayla!

Ingredients:

3 cups of dry roasted almonds

A pinch of salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon of honey (or agave or maple syrup as a vegan option)

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon

(you can add more or less spices to taste, also try experimenting with other flavours such as nutmeg, chilli or pepper).

Method:

Roast the almonds on a tray in the oven at 180 degrees for 12 minutes (shaking the pan after 6 minutes to rotate the nuts).

In a food processor, blend the almonds scraping down the sides as you go (this can take a while).

As the almonds begins to form a smooth paste, add the spices and sweetener, blend until well combined.

Store in a sealed jar. Yumm!!
